Artist Statement
The person at the front of the room is the cultivator of the culture. As a choreographer, I choose to yield my position of power by facilitating a healthy working environment. In my rehearsal space there is no hierarchy. Every human in the room is equal to one another and possesses a unique gift to share with the group. Irrespective of the work I make, I value this above all else.
My artistic interests are vast, and I choose not to limit myself in terms of what I create. I honor this deep desire for multiplicity by composing a variety of work, spanning from classical ballet, musical theatre, kitschy contemporary dance, and beyond. My choreographic goal is to create work that is both empowering to the dancers and embraces the audience.
Through intentional consultation with the dancers, I generate an autonomous climate that unlocks a level of authenticity not often permitted within the professional realm. What my collaborators have to say as people is just as important as what they offer as movement artists.
My work is serious and deeply unserious. It is timely, human, and sincere. Sometimes it includes spectacle, sometimes not. It always includes consideration for others. Most of all, my work is made with a profound mutual respect for the artists I create with and an eagerness to challenge tradition.
